
Lisa Engle
Lisa Engle frequently paints from the family’s boat while on the TN River or on the shores of nearby Pickwick Lake. Seeking to capture the incredible beauty of the moment. She shares her love for painting outdoors by leading the annual Renaissance on Main Plein Air event in her hometown of Adamsville. Engle has gained recognition in various plein air events regionally and been juried into two national AIS shows. In March of 2022, Engle was awarded 1st place in the open category at Forgotten Coast plein air QuickDraw by judge Kevin McPherson.
Biography
Lisa Engle was born in Clarksville, TN, in 1966. She grew up in a small rural town in West TN. Where she and her husband Randy live today. Engle frequently paints from their boat while on the TN River or from the shores of nearby Pickwick Lake. And travels to paint in plein air events. She shares her love for painting outdoors by leading the annual Renaissance on Main Plein Air event in her hometown of Adamsville.
A retired high school art teacher. Engle knew she wanted to become a painter after receiving her first set of oil paints in fifth grade. Her love of painting and drawing continued under her high school art teacher Ron Christopher. Then with Bob Head and Dale Leys, on scholarship, at Murray State in KY. Finishing her formal education with a degree from Freed-Hardeman University in TN under Terri Tacker. During a workshop taught by members of the Cumberland Society of Painters in 2014 Engle discovered painting “en plein” air. She credits the members of this group with influencing her method of painting. Paint from direct observation, use a limited palette, rely on visual memory, and paint outdoors frequently. These working habits have helped her gain recognition in various plein air events regionally and being juried into two national AIS shows. As well as, awarded 1st place in the open category at Forgotten Coast plein air QuickDraw by judge Kevin McPherson in 2022.
