My father (the vet) wanted me to be a veterinarian. I loved English Setters, and tolerated Poodles with ribbons in their hair… but my heart wanted to be an artist. In college, I tried vet medicine but eventually landed in Graphic Design. Along the way, I took as many painting classes as the fine art majors did. During college, I met and married my soul mate. I begin 30 years of work in advertising as an art director and an owner of my own advertising agency. After raising three kids and having three English Setters, I left the advertising business and began dating my first love… Art. In 1990 I became a full-time oil painter. I have traveled throughout the Southeast doing about 20 juried outdoor art shows a year. I have won numerous awards for my paintings. My wife, Pam is a portrait artist. Together we had “2 Smith” Art Gallery in Duluth, GA. We also started and ran Duluth Plein Air for six years in Duluth, GA. I prefer to work with oil on stretched canvas. “I see things in unexpected color and energy.” ”I love the impressionist artists, especially Van Gogh, Monet and Cezanne.” My work has a strong following of art patrons throughout the United States including: Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, New Jersey, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia.
