NC Plein Air’s Adult Workshops go beyond traditional classroom-style instruction. Alongside select instructional workshops, we offer mentored plein air experiences designed for artists who want to grow through immersion, observation, and shared practice in the landscape.

These programs emphasize learning by doing—painting outdoors for extended sessions, engaging in thoughtful conversation, and receiving individualized guidance rather than formal lectures. While some experiences may begin with a brief demonstration to establish shared ideas and approaches, the heart of each program is the opportunity to paint alongside an accomplished mentor, gaining insight through real-time feedback and personal engagement.

Artists are encouraged to work at their own pace, explore their own visual language, and deepen their understanding of seeing, composition, value, color, and mark-making. Because mentorship is individualized, these experiences are welcoming to both beginning and advanced painters.
