Biography

Pearl is an award-winning impressionist painter living and working just outside of Richmond, Virginia. She creates paintings that are energetic, expressive, and characterized by a deliberate balance between rendering and abstraction. What moves her through a piece is a belief that a painting should originate from a strong intention — and that a love and appreciation for the subject matter carry this effort forward. She enjoys the serendipitous marks and shapes that make a work of art compelling and believes that this connects the painting with the viewer in a raw and emotional way.

Pearl began working in oils while she was studying medicine, driven to pursue her dream as a child that she could no longer set aside. She knew at a young age that art was her calling and that she would always circle back to it and find it again. She began working in oils at the age of 25 while she was studying medicine and has accumulated over a decade of experience in fine art. Today, she continues to balance her life as an ER physician and as a professional artist.

She enjoys painting both in the studio and en plein air and continues to develop her intuition as an artist. Pearl is particularly drawn to scenes with movement and a strong sense of light, enjoying the feeling and energy of brush in hand as an extension of her spirit. Over the years she has studied with nationally and internationally recognized impressionist painters and her work is strongly influenced by Robin Caspari and Hsin-yao Tseng. She continues to learn and evolve as a painter by experimenting with paint, tools, and subject matter, spending time in the field, and drawing inspiration from her fellow artists and their respective journeys.

Pearl is an Associate Member of the American Impressionist Society. In 2025, her painting “Traffic” was accepted into the AIS 26th National Juried Exhibition. Her work was also accepted into the 2023 and 2025 AIS All Member Online Exhibitions. In 2022, she was the recipient of the first prize Gino Award, at Paint It! Ellicott City. She has been juried into numerous plein air events along the east coast. Her work can be viewed at Crossroads Art Center in Richmond, Virginia.
