In my career as an architect, I began my creative process with quick ink and marker sketches. This evolved into a fascination with the expressive watercolor style. Today, I quickly capture the mood of street and landscape scenes through expressions of natural light, using bold and varied brush strokes.
My first competition yielded Best Watercolor at White Bear Center for the Arts – Into Nature Plein Air 2022.
Quickly followed by winning Best in Show 2022 – Open Class at Plein Air Grand Marais. Both, an honor and my springboard into the world of plein air competitions.

Biography

In my career as an architect, I began my creative process with quick ink and marker sketches. This evolved into a fascination with the expressive watercolor style. Today, I quickly capture the mood of street and landscape scenes through expressions of natural light, using bold and varied brush strokes.
Moving to a downtown Minneapolis condo three years ago facilitated my love of Plein Air, allowing me to ride my scooter exploring and painting urban street scenes.
In my Architectural career I won over 20 AIA (American Institute of Architects) Design Awards.
My first Plein Air Painting competition yielded Best Watercolor at White Bear Center for the Arts – Into Nature Plein Air 2022.
Quickly followed by winning Best in Show 2022 – Open Class at Plein Air Grand Marais. Both, an honor and my springboard into the world of plein air competitions.

Artist Statement

“How long does it take you to do a painting?” said the passerby.
“About an hour” I say.
If you really want to know, I started in 1966 sculpting with sticks and wire along Lake Zumbra, Victoria, MN.
Jump ahead to 1976, University of Minnesota, paired with a semester at Tian Jin University in 1981 ending in a BA in Architecture.
Thirty-nine years of designing public buildings, dropped me at an easel with the thrill of water, paint and textured paper.
It has taken me 56 years to do one painting at a time.
